Questions and answers about WAVEiii Demo

The Basics

WAVEiii Demo is a friendly competition. Players record their daily activities - physical activities or sports, or mental health activities like meditation or even time spent baking - and compete against other players.

Form a team and invite others to join, or just play solo. It's up to you.

It's all about staying Active.

event format

No, you can play as an individual player if you prefer. Every player joins as an individual and every player plays against all other players, but if you are on a team then your activities count towards the team results too.
One team per player, just like any other sport.
Right now there are some activities that just aren't safe because of the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Those include team sports and any activity where players are in close contact with one another. Once the pandemic is finally over all of those activities will return.

If you don't see your favourite activity (bird-watching? sheep-shearing? juggling?) please contact WAVEiii HQ and ask to have it added. If it's COVID-safe, no problem.
We do not. Integration with popular social media platforms is not part of the WAVEiii event experience due to concerns over privacy and personal information.

WAVEiii clients normally restrict access to players with corporate email accounts, so we do not enable social media logins for that reason as well.
Yes! Invite as many players as you like. WAVEiii events have no size limit, and work better when there are more players. Corporate events typically have 3-4,000 players at one time from around the world.

WAVEiii Demo has a player limit of 5000 and is limited to WAVEiii Demo employees .
Flair is a way for you to give encouragement and/or congrats to your fellow WinterActivists. Did someone just do a 12 hour yoga marathon? Send them some flair. Did they take their pomeranian on a 10 km march? Send some flair (to the player, not the dog).

This is also flair.
Every time your total distance passes one of the WAVEiii Demo milestones you unlock a badge that will show on your player results page so everyone can see how awesome you are.
Every time your team's total distance passes one of the WAVEiii Demo milestones you unlock a badge that will show on your Team page so everyone can see how awesome your team is.

duration + dates

No, you can only record activities that were done between 1 June 2024 and 30 June 2024.
You can still enter your activities for 1 week past the final day. You can still only enter your activities for the previous month though.
Yes! You can sign up any time and enter your activities for previous dates back to June 1.

recording activities

All activities are converted to kilometres, and each activity is weighted differently according to relative effort and whether it involves a mechanical assist (like cycling).

Activity weightings are based on the Compendium of Physical Activities, using the METS number, a measure of effort relative to resting metabolic rate. A detailed explanation is on the Activities page
Yes, you can correct anything you enter.

On your 'View Results' page look for the green 'View All Activity Details' button just below all your charts (near the bottom of the page).
  • Click that button to reveal everything you have entered so far.
  • Click the name of the activity you want to correct.
  • Now you can change the date or the distance (or duration) of the activity, or delete it completely.
If you need to change a FitBit entry just delete it and then re-enter it using 'Add New' option in your My Results menu.
WAVEiii Demo is based on the honour system - all players should only enter activities they have actually done and should be accurate and honest when doing so. There are no prizes so there should be no reason to 'pad' your results.

If you see that someone has recorded something clearly impossible, don't panic - 99% of the time it is an entry error and will be corrected. If that doesn't happen, just contact WAVEiii HQ using the contact form and we'll call in an air strike contact the player.
Players with Fitbit devices and accounts can sync their daily step counts with their WAVEiii Demo player account.

Players can access total step count for any previous day.

Players with Strava accounts can also retrieve activities from that platform. All activities are available for import to WAVEiii.

privacy

All WAVEiii events remain online for 30 days after the final day. After that the event and all related data is deleted.

WAVEiii does not retain any data about individual participants. We do keep reports in aggregate though, to track information about our events and to plan for future product improvements.

WAVEiii will not share players' or corporate data with any 3rd party, ever.
Players participating in the Weight Loss module (this may not be part of your event) have the option to keep the details of their account private. Actual weights can be kept private, and only total weight loss will be published.
We encourage all players to participate using real names, but the option is there to play under an alias.

Accounts must be created using a valid email address.
We do not enable direct communication between players with the exception of Team Leads inviting active players to join their team, and players sending each other 'flair' to encourage and reward their efforts.
Yes. Sign in and go to your profile page, there is an option there to delete your account. All player profile details and recorded activities will be deleted permanently.
